अर्थ – राजा कृष्णचन्द्र को उनके दरबारीगण हमेशा ही गोपाल के बारे में शिकायत किया करते थे । दरबारियों की शिकायत थी कि वह जिस किसी को भी कभी भी मूर्ख बनाता रहता था । प्रत्येक व्यक्ति का वह उपहास करता रहता था । राजा के दरबार में उपस्थित प्रत्येक दरबारी भी ऐसा नहीं था कि गोपाल का मजाक उड़ाने की कोशिश न की हो । लेकिन हर बार गोपाल के सामने उसी व्यक्ति को मूर्ख बन जाना पड़ता था जो कि गोपाल को मूर्ख बनाना चाहता था । राजा को दरबारियों ने इस बात के विषय में बता रखा था । राजा को तो स्वयं भी बहुत बुरा लगता था कि बिना किसी प्रकार की भद्दी बात करे भी , गोपाल उसे भी मूर्ख बना दिया करता था । एक दिन , इसी कारण राजा कृष्णचन्द्र ने एक निश्चय किया । उन्होंने ठान ही लिया कि गोपाल को वह अपमानित करेंगे और जब गोपाल स्वयं को अपमानित महसूस करेगा तो वह उसकी उस स्थिति का मजा लेंगे ।

अर्थ– ठीक अगले दिन , जैसे ही गोपाल ने दरबार में अपना कदम रखा कि राजा कृष्णचन्द्र ने जोर से आवाज लगाई ” आह , गोपाल , कल रात को मैंने बड़ा विचित्र सपना देखा । ” दरबार में उपस्थित तमाम दरबारीगण राजा की बात सुनने के लिए विल्कुल ही शांत हो गये ।

Word meaning : Dreamt ( v ) [ ड्रेस्ट ] = सपना देखा । Pool ( n ) [ पूल ] = तालाब । Horribly ( adv ) [ हॉरीबली ] = भयंकर रूप से | Smelly ( adj [ स्मेली ] = बदबू से भरा हुआ । Dung ( n ) [ डंग ] = गौवर । Rotting ( adj ) [ रॉटिंग ] = सड़ा हुआ , गला हुआ । Muck ( n ) [ मक ] = मल मूत्र ।

अर्थ -” गोपाल , कल रात को मैंने सपने में देखा कि मैं और तुम घूमने के लिए जा रहे हैं । हमलोग एक ऐसी जगह पर पहुँचे जहाँ कि दो तालाब आस – पास ही थे । उनमें से एक तालाब में तो खीर भरा हुआ था जबकि दूसरा जो तालाब था उसमें बदबूदार गोबर भरा हुआ था । हम दोनों उधर ही जा रहे थे । तभी अचानक मेरा पैर फिसला और मैं खीर से भरे तालाब में जा गिरा जबकि तुम जा गिरे उस बदबूदार और दुधित गोबर से लबालब भरे हुए तालाब में । ”

Word meaning : Hearing ( v ) [ हिअरिंग ] = सुनते हुए । Burst out ( phr ) ( बस्ट आउट ] = फूट पड़े । Laughing ( n ) [ लाफिंग ] = हँसी । Head to toe ( phr ) [ हेड टू टो ] = सिर से पाँव तक ।

अर्थ– राजा की उस बात को सुनने के बाद दरबार में उपस्थित सभी दरबारीगण को हँसी दरबार में गूंजने लगी । वे लोग तो स्पष्टतः इस विचार से ही खूब खुश हो गये कि वह मसखरा गोपाल सिर से पाँव तक मल – मूत्र से भरा हुआ था ।

Word meaning : Unrufmed ( adj ) [ अनस्फल्ड ] = शांतिपूर्वक , बिना परेशान हुए । Humility ( n ) [ यूमिलिटि ] = विनम्रता । Exactly ( adv ) [ एक्जैक्टली ) = बिल्कुल वही । Dream ( n ) [ डीम ] = स्वप्न , सपना ।

अर्थ – बिना परेशान हुए गोपाल शांति से खड़ा रहा । वह सभी दरबारियों को हँसी के शांत होने का इंतजार किया । फिर उसने सभी को आश्चर्य में डाल दिया । उसने राजा से कहा कि उसने भी बिल्कुल वैसा ही सपना देखा था और यह बात उसने बिल्कुल विनम्र होकर कही ।

अर्थ – गोपाल की ओर राजा ने अचरज भरी प्रश्नवाचक निगाहों से देखते हुए सवाल किया , ” तो , तुम्हारे कहने का तात्पर्य है कि तुमने भी एक सपना देखा और तुम्हारे सपने में भी ठीक वैसी ही घटनाएँ घटती चली गई जैसा कि मेरे सपने में घटित हुआ था ? ”

‘ ‘ Yes ‘ Maharaj , ” replied …….. …. each other . “

Word meanings : Replied ( v ) [ रिप्लाइड ] = उत्तर दिया । Earlier ( adj ) [ अर्लिअर ] = सबेरे , पहले । Continued ( v ) [ कन्टीन्यूड ] = जारी रहा । Covered ( adj ) [ कवडी = ढंका हुआ । Licking ( v ) ( लिकिंग ] = चाट रहा था ।हँसे ।

अर्थ – गोपाल ने राजा को जवाब दिया , ” हाँ महाराज फर्क सिर्फ इतना ही है कि आपका स्वप्न थोड़ा जल्दी ही पूरा हो गया था । मेरा सपना कुछ और देर तक जारी रहा था । आगे , सपने में मैं क्या देखता हूँ कि हम दोनों अपने – अपने तालाब से बाहर निकल रहे हैं । आप खीर से भरे हुए थे और मैं मल – मूत्र से । तभी मैंने सपने में देखा कि एक – दूसरे को साफ करने के लिए मैं आपको चाट रहा हूँ और आप मुझको चाटते जा रहे हैं ।

Word meaning : Almost ( adv ) ( ऑलमोस्ट ] = लगभग , प्रायः | Chocked ( adj ) [ चोक्ड ] = खामोश रह जाना , कण्ठ से एकदम भी आवाज का न निकलना । Unfortunately ( adv ) [ अनफॉरयूनेटली ] = दुर्भाग्य से । Mood ( m ) [ मूड ] = मिजाज | Topull some body’s leg ( idiom ) [ टू पुल समबडीज लेग ] = किसी व्यक्ति का मजाक उड़ाना या खिंचाई करना । wit ( n ) [ विट ] = चतुराई ।

अर्थ – दरबारीगण को तो जैसे गोपाल की बातें सुन काठ मार गया । उनके गले बैठ से गये । किसी के मुँह से एक आवाज भी नहीं निकली । लेकिन जैसा कि सभी लोग चाह रहे थे होना , हुआ नहीं । राजा को क्रोध नहीं आया । उनका मन शांत था । अत : गोपाल द्वारा अपनी खिंचाई करने पर उन्होंने बुरा नहीं माना । उल्टे वह गोपाल की चतुराईपूर्ण कौशल से खुश होकर खूब हँसे।

Summary :
Many stories are famous about the wit of jester Gopal . This story is one of them . Raja Krishna Chandra had after heard from his courtiers that Gopal had made fool to all of them . The Raja decided to amuse himself by baiting Gopal .
Raja Krishna Chandra said to Gopal that he had a dream . In the dream both of them went for a walk . He fell into a pool of Kheer while he fell into a pool of smelly dung.
All the courtiers laughed hearing to the king . Then , Gopal calmly said that he also had seen the same dream . The king’s dream had finished earlier , while his dream continued . In his dream , he later saw that both of them came out of the pools . Then , in order to clean each other both of them started licking each other . Hearing this , all the courtiers were stunned choked . There was complete silence in the court . But , that day the king was in a good mood . To all the courtier’s surprise , the king laughed at Gopal’s wit .
    सारांश –
मसखरे गोपाल के विषय में ढेरों कहानियाँ प्रचलित हैं । प्रस्तुत कहानी भी उन्हीं में से एक है । राजा कृष्णचन्द्र ने दरबारियों से सुन रखा था कि गोपाल ने सभी को कभी न कभी मूर्ख बनाया है । जब कभी उन्होंने गोपाल को मूर्ख बनाने की कोशिश की , उल्टे गोपाल ने ही उन्हें मूर्ख बना दिया । राजा ने एक दिन गोपाल का मजाक उड़ाकर मजा लेने की ठान ली ।
राजा कृष्णचन्द्र ने गोपाल से कहा कि पिछली रात उन्होंने एक सपना देखा । सपने में वे दोनों घूमने निकले । वे गिर पड़े एक खीर के तालाब में और गोपाल गिर पड़ा एक बदबूदार गोबर के तालाब में ।
राजा की बात सुनकर दरबार में उपस्थित सभी दरबारीगण ठठाकर हँस पड़े । तब , गोपाल ने बिल्कुल शांत रहते हुए कहा कि उसने भी ठीक वही सपना देखा था । फर्क यह है कि राजा का सपना जल्दी ही खत्म हो गया जबकि उसका सपना आगे भी चलता रहा । आगे सपने में उसने देखा कि वे दोनों तालाब से निकले तो एक – दूसरे को साफ करने के क्रम में दोनों एक – दूसरे को चाटने लगे ।
यह सुनते ही जैसे कि तमाम दरबारियों को साँप सूंघ गया है । पूरे दरबार में सन्नाटा छा गया । पर , राजा उस दिन अच्छी मिजाज में था । उसने गोपाल की छींटाकशी का बुरा नहीं माना । दरबारी आश्चर्य में पड़ गये जबकि राजा ने गोपाल की चतुराई की खूब तारीफ की ।

D.1 . Determiners Look at the following sentence :
The king was in a good mood and did not mind his legs being pulled a little Note the underlined words in the given sentence . Here , the word ‘ the ‘ be fore ‘ king ‘ refers to a particular king , i.e. , Raja Krishna Chandra . Similarly , the word his before ‘ legs ‘ refers to the legs of that very king .
Words like a / an , the , this , that , some etc. are called Determiners and they are used before a noun or a noun phrase to define or limit its meaning . In a noun phrase , only one determiner is permitted . There are many determiners in En glish . Here is a list of some of them :

We use a variety of punctuation marks , such as full stop / period , comma , question mark , brackets , etc. in our writing to separate sentences phrases , etc. , and to clarify their meaning .
Apostrophe (‘ )
( i ) An apostrophe is used :
( a ) to form contractions by showing the numbers or letters that have been left out ; e.g. , ’88 = 1988 , I am = I’m , we are = we’re , he will = he’ll , they would = they’d , do not = don’t , I have = I’ve .
( b ) to form the possessive of a noun . Add ‘ s to a single noun or name : uncle’s shop , Ashu’s friend , cat’s tail , Anu’s car .
Add ‘ s to a singular noun that ends in – s : actress’s role ; princess’s friend ; rhinoceros ‘ skin .
Add’s to other plural nouns : children’s toys : women’s shoe ; men’s shirts .
And’s to a person’s office or shop : I’ll buy the medicine at the chemist’s . / I’ll be visiting Anil’s .
Add’s only after the second name : Jack and Jill’s pail , Aslam and Anuj’s school .
( c ) to form the plural of abbreviations : many Dr.’s , many C.M’s , many Ph.D. ( ii ) An apostrophe is placed at the end of the word when the word is plural and ends in s ‘ : student’s bags , books ‘ covers .
( iii ) for the plural of a number or letter : your l’s , your e’s , your 5’s are too big ..

Colon :
( i ) A colon is used before a list and usually after ‘ as follows ‘ or ‘ following items ‘ etc.
Example : This box contains the following items : bandages , plasters , lotion , medicines and a pair of scissors .
( ii ) It is used to separate the hour from the minutes when telling time . Example : 10:45 A.M. , 10:45 P.M.
( iii ) It is used to introduce quoted material .
Example : The Headmaster of our school often used to tell us this quota tion : ” Writing makes a man perfect .

A semicolon is used :
( i ) to join two sentences , independent clauses or a series of items which are closely connected in meaning .
Example : He gives up smoking ; obviously , he fears contracting one of the smoking – related diseases .
( ii ) to join two complete sentences into a single written sentence when the two sentences are too closely related to be separately by a full stop and there is no connecting word which would require a comma such as ‘ and ‘ or ‘ but ‘ . Example : He had no money ; he felt helpless .
( iii ) to join two independent clauses when the second clause restates the first or when the two clauses are of equal emphasis .
Example : Road construction in Tarauni has hindered travel around vil lage ; streets have become covered with buldozers , trucks , cement , etc.
( iv ) to join two complete sentences into a single written sentence where the second sentence begins with a conjunctive adverb such as ” however ‘ , ‘ never theless ‘ , ‘ accordingly , ‘ consequently ‘ or ‘ instead ‘ .
Example : I wanted to make my speech short ; however , there was so much to cover .
( v ) to separate items in a list when one or more of those items contains a comma.
Example : ‘ The speakers included . Radha Mohan Meena , the Commissioner , Nasiruddin Khan , the Education Officer , and Ajay Chaudhary , the Principal .
Hyphen ( – )
A hyphen is used :
( i ) to join two words or more to form compound words , Example : good – looking , pro – Indian , forty – one , daughter – in – law .
( ii ) It is used for periods of time when you might otherwise use to  .
Example : The years 2009-2011 , September – December .
( iii ) to link two connected words . Example : the Patna – Delhi train .
( iv ) to add emphasis or make it dramatic .
Example : He said that he would go – and he did .

Dash ( – )

( i ) A dash is sometimes used instead of a celon or semi – colon .
Example : ” Quick ! Go now – the police are coming for you ”
( ii ) A dash is used in pairs to separate a strong interruption from the rest of the sentence( a strong interruption , as opposed to a weak interruption , is one which forcefully disrupts the flow of the sentence and , as such , it usually con tains a verb rather simply being a phrase ) .
Example : All nations desire economic growth – some even achieve it – but it is easier said than done .
( iv ) When dashes are used in a sentence , commas are not used to separate interrupting phrases Example : She looked at the dresses – a few of them – deciding on the one she should buy . ( NOT : She looked at the dresses , a few of them , – deciding on the one she should buy . )

Write a paragraph on either of the following topics :

2. There is no life without humour .

Ans . 1. Pleasures of having fun at others : It is real pleasure to have fun with others . To do this a person needs a great sense of humour . But it should be kept in mind that we shouldn’t cross the limit . The person’s prestige or his ego shouldn’t be hurt we are going to have fun at . Once , I sticked a bill on my friend’s back — ” Only for Rs . 100 ” . Wherever the boy went peels of laughter raised . The boy couldn’t understand why all were laughing at him . When he was shown the bill from his back , he was firstly angry , then he too laughed . So , we should be limited while having fun at others .

Ans . In my neighbourhood , Mr. Sharma lives , who is a mastermind of having fun at others . Once , he told to his neighbour Mr. Sen that there’s dung thrown at his back . So , he should immediately go to his room and change his shirt . And , how hurriedly ran Mr. Sen to his room . When he came bhack out of his house , he was fired with Mr. Sharma and we all were laughing at the bad mood and peculiar gesture of Mr. Sen.
